Creating a great travel experience on tablet

With the amount of tablet traffic coming to the Thomson and First Choice websites increasing every week it’s essential that the two sites provide a fantastic experience for tablet users. I was tasked with optimising the user experience of the two existing desktop sites for tablet users (with holiday search as a priority) and for ensuring that measures are put in place to ensure that all future designs are tablet friendly.

What did I do?

  • Carried out an expert review of the sites on a range of tablet devices to identify usability issues.
  • Analysed site analytics to identify possible tablet usability issues.
  • Initiated face-to-face usability testing of the websites on a tablet device to explore and identify possible tablet usability issues.
  • Set-up remote usability testing of the sites using UserZoom – a remote usability testing tool.
  • Created a responsive tablet and desktop prototype showcasing a new tablet optimised search journey (the key user journey on a travel site).
  • Carried out face-to-face usability testing of the tablet optimised design to evaluate with users.
  • Compiled and communicated tablet UX guidelines to be used by the TUI UX and design team for future designs.
  • Organised tablet UX & usability training for the TUI UX and design team to build in-house know how.
